Single-use temperature data loggers, also called disposable data loggers, one-time-use loggers or single-use temperature sensors, travel with a shipment and never come back. The receiver plugs the logger into any PC for an automatic PDF report, and if your loggers do come back on repeat routes, compare them with reusable temperature data loggers below. Press start, pack it with the goods, and the receiver plugs it into any PC to get an automatic PDF report, with no software to install. They're the standard choice for pharma exports, vaccine distribution and food shipments across India. Compare models, accuracy, run time and indicative prices in INR below.

Single-use logger journey
Single-use loggers record for a fixed period, commonly 30, 60, 90 or 180 days. Choose one that covers the whole trip plus any storage time at the destination.
Unstarted loggers have a limited shelf life, often 12 to 24 months. Check it before ordering in bulk.
A start delay lets you press start, then pack and load before recording begins, so packing temperatures don't count as excursions.
Look for both single alarms (one reading outside the limits) and cumulative alarms (total time outside the limits), set to match your product.
The receiver should get a PDF report just by plugging the logger into a PC, with no software or login needed.
For air freight, check the logger is tested to RTCA DO-160 or appears on the airline's approved list.

Which costs less? Work out the cost per trip. If you send the same route often and can reliably get loggers back, a reusable logger quickly becomes cheaper per shipment. If loggers rarely come back, as with exports, distributors and many receivers, single-use is usually cheaper and simpler once you count the cost of recovering devices.
Limited-use loggers: some models sit in between, usable for a set number of trips or a fixed total recording time. They suit shippers who want a lower price than reusable models but more than one use.
A single-use data logger is used for one shipment and isn't returned. It's pre-configured, starts with a button press, travels with the goods, and the receiver plugs it in to get a PDF report on arrival. It's widely used for exports and one-way pharma and food shipments.
It depends on whether loggers come back. If you can recover them reliably on repeated routes, reusable loggers become cheaper per trip. If they rarely return, as with exports and many distribution routes, single-use loggers are usually cheaper once you count recovery costs.
Single-use loggers typically have a shelf life of around 12 to 24 months before activation, depending on the model and battery. Check the stated shelf life before ordering in bulk.
In shipping, yes. Both terms describe a disposable device that records temperature for one trip and produces a report.
Most models can be bought as a single unit, and per-unit prices fall for bulk orders.
Yes, if the model is airline approved. Look for RTCA DO-160 or the airline's own approval list.
